Create Bacano

Create with optimization mods and a small set of helpers, for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge. The client ships as a CurseForge modpack, so players can use the launcher they like. The source is a packwiz pack.

Dev cycle

bash scripts/dev.sh setup # once: installs NeoForge in .dev/server
bash scripts/dev.sh start # serves the pack, syncs mods, starts the server on 127.0.0.1:25566
bash scripts/dev.sh client # once: creates the "Create Bacano Dev" Prism instance
  1. Change the pack: packwiz curseforge add <curseforge url> -y, or edit config/.
  2. Run bash scripts/dev.sh check. A mod excluded from the CurseForge API fails here. Do not use one: it needs a manual download in every launcher except the CurseForge app.
  3. Restart the server with bash scripts/dev.sh stop and bash scripts/dev.sh start.
  4. Launch the Prism instance. It syncs from the local pack before the game opens.
  5. Join 127.0.0.1:25566.
  6. Commit to main when it works.

bash scripts/dev.sh down stops the server and the pack. The test server is capped at 4 CPUs and 6 GB, and only listens on loopback.

Mod sides

Set side in each mods/*.pw.toml, because CurseForge marks everything as both:

  • client: goes in the CurseForge zip only.
  • server: goes on the server only. These can come from Modrinth.
  • both: must come from CurseForge, because the client zip lists it by project.

An [option] table with optional = true and default = false exports as required: false. Prism asks about these mods on install and keeps the ones left out as .disabled files. Other launchers may skip them, so a player there adds the mod by hand.

Releasing

  1. Run bash scripts/release.sh <version> to build dist/create-bacano-<version>.zip.
  2. Upload the zip to CurseForge and wait for approval.
  3. Move the release branch to that commit.

The server follows release, so it only updates once players can get the same version. Back up and stop the server before a release that removes or changes a mod with world content.

Server

Copy server-template/ into the server folder with packwiz-installer-bootstrap.jar, on Java 21, after running the NeoForge installer. Use ./run.sh as the Crafty execution command. A new NeoForge version means running the installer again and updating NEOFORGE in run.sh.
